NHL Predictions & Betting Tips
You don’t need to pay for NHL predictions when ours are 100% free. If you’re looking to wager on matches in the National Hockey League, you’ll find several ideas for bets, right here.
From regular season games to the Stanley Cup, our tips are created using factual data and expert analysis. This is crucial when it comes to placing your NHL bets on the big games.
When Do We Post Our NHL Predictions?
![]()
Like our football betting tips, we aim to have our predictions ready after the previous round of NHL games. This translates to no later than 24 hours before each scheduled match, giving you ample time to make your bets. We stick to this timeframe throughout the hockey season, so you get sophisticated tips based on statistical analysis.
When it comes to major hockey matches and playoff fixtures, you can sometimes find our tips earlier. We stress that with our NHL betting predictions, it’s good to consider wagers sooner to take advantage of any early value in the betting odds.
Furthermore, we never leave our tips stale. Instead, we routinely update them to account for last-minute injury reports, changes in team news, and other crucial factors right up until face-off.
Different Types of NHL Tips We Offer
There’s a wide range of betting markets for the NHL that are available throughout the season. As such, you’ll find plenty of popular bet types covered here that ultimately cater to different betting approaches.
Hockey is more popular in North America than it is in the UK or Europe. This means you will sometimes find Americanised terminology used to represent markets, such as moneyline (match winner) or player prop bets (side bets/specials).
These are some of the NHL betting tips we cover.
Match Winner/Moneyline
The bread and butter of our NHL Predictions, this market lets you bet on who wins the match. A bet on the match winner means that, regardless of what happens between puck drop and the final whistle, you get paid if the team you bet on scores more goals.
Handicap/Puck Line Betting
We also provide incisive NHL predictions for puck line betting. This is essentially what top UK betting sites refer to as handicap betting, whereby a virtual goal advantage is given to one team and a disadvantage to the other. You get more attractive odds than match-winner bets for the likes of Colorado -1.5 vs Boston Bruins +1.5 than you would just to back a winner. For this reason, we provide more sophisticated NHL expert predictions focusing on the likeliest margin of victory.
Over Under/Totals Goals
Just as it sounds, this market lets you bet on the total goals scored in the game. NHL score predictions are placed on whether the total number is over or under the number set by the bookie – for example, 6.5. We examine defensive and offensive capabilities as well as individual metrics and power-play goal potential when providing tips for this market.
Specials/Team, Game, and Player Props Markets
You can use some of our NHL predictions tonight to bet on a wide range of specials markets. These may include first and any time scorers, fouls, 60-minute correct scores, player assists, shots on goal, and overtime markets.
Again, these are known as props in North America and some UK and Irish bookies may even refer to them by that name. You may also find fresh picks for the least and likeliest scenarios individual hockey players may contribute to in a game. These range of markets and NHL sports bets vary from bookie to bookie.
More NHL Betting Tips We Offer
There are plenty of other ways to bet on the NHL using our tips. You can place singles on line with tie including overtime or combine multiple selections with ice hockey Bet Builders. Accumulators, which can be placed on 3+ teams winning, are also an option.

NHL Season Schedule and Information
We also recommend getting familiar with the competition schedule before making your NHL predictions. The NHL regular season generally runs from October to April each year, with all teams playing 82 games (41 home, 41 away).
- 26 games within their geographic division
- 4 games against five divisional opponents
- 3 games against two other divisional teams
- 24 games against the remaining non-divisional teams in their conference
- 3 games against each team in the other division
- 32 inter-conference games
Teams play each team from the opposite conference twice, with one home and one away game.
The NHL points system is pretty easy to understand, too.
- 2 points for a win
- 1 point for an overtime or shootout loss
- 0 points for a regulation loss
At the end of the regular season, the team with the most points in each division claims the division championship. Then, the league’s overall points leader receives the Presidents’ Trophy.
NHL Playoffs Dates
The NHL playoffs begin in mid-April following the conclusion of the regular season. We see the top 16 teams (8 from each conference) partaking in a best-of-seven elimination tournament contest in the playoffs until two teams are left.
- Conference Quarter-Finals – Mid-April to early May
- Conference Semi-Finals – Early May to mid-May
- Conference Finals – Mid-May to late May
We provide NHL playoff predictions beyond the regular season. You can find them right here when they kick off.
When is the Stanley Cup Finals?

The Stanley Cup Finals is a centrepiece of ice hockey that takes place from place from late May to mid-June. Considered ice hockey’s equivalent of the NFL Super Bowl, It’s a best-of-seven series that ultimately separates the NHL champion from the rest.
As you can imagine, the Stanley Cup Finals come with considerable betting interest. In fact, you can bet on Stanley Cup outright markets before the regular season has even started.
The event runs over approximately two weeks, with games scheduled every other day to allow for travel and rest. In addition to NHL playoff predictions and regular season bets, come back to us to find potential wagers for hockey’s biggest event.
Best NHL Betting Tips and Strategies
Our experts have put together some tips that can help you win your NHL bets. Add these to your betting strategy the next time you want to bet on the hockey.
Start with NHL Expert Predictions
The logical starting point for bettors new to the NHL is to see what the experts are saying. Our tips, for example, are based on factors such as how power play units convert more man-advantage opportunities into goals. Or how red-hot assist makers on dominant teams can influence who wins at the end of a game.
Look to the Stats to Influence Score Predictions
One of the most useful NHL stats to consider is the performance of goalies. From GAA, SV percentages, and shutouts, you can weigh up how crucial they have been to their teams. Top goalie averages and recent form can, of course, contribute majorly to how many goals a team may concede or indeed defend.
Consider the Impact of Travel and Schedule
NHL teams encounter some of the busiest and most gruelling travel schedules in professional sport. As players are only human, it’s natural to see dips in form or interest from stars involved in back-to-back games. As a bettor, you can potentially exploit this by looking for betting value in handicap bets, total goals odds, and even special markets.
Hold off on Team News for Tight Matchups
Betting early can sometimes bring with it the advantage of better odds across the entire season. However, when it comes to close matchups that can be decided by the top team on the ice, it’s advisable to wait until you see the teamsheets for both sides. We factor in last-minute subs, team cohesion, and recent form into our NHL predictions but update them according to who plays.
Familiarise Yourself with Modern NHL Analytics
There’s a lot of modern analysis in ice hockey that stretches far beyond the box score. Corsi, for example, measures not aspects of team performance but of shot attempt differential, expected goals, and high-danger scoring chances. High Corsi teams, for example, will almost always be favoured to score more goals in the long run.
