French Ligue 1 Betting Tips, Predictions & Betting Advice
Check out our current Ligue 1 predictions today from the best of French football. There is a little bit more to it this free service than that at BetIdeas, however. Other areas where our top football tipsters and experts can help you not just which teams to place Ligue 1 bets on, but where to wager and how to do it.
All this ensures our French league predictions are done in the right place for the right reasons. It’s only logical with such a data-driven approach that we apply the same methods to processes of the how and where, as well as why and when.
Where to Bet on Ligue 1
French football predictions are all well and good on their own, but what about recommended online bookies licensed for the UK to take your bets? Broadly speaking, there are two different types of internet bookmaker. There are the big name betting brands and newcomers operating online only.
Take any of our Ligue 1 predictions at random and it’s not just simply a matter of getting the best odds. Established firms like William Hill, Paddy Power and Betfred, who all maintain a presence in our towns and cities through betting shops, often provide lots of offers and deals that could extend to the biggest football matches in France.
Alternatively, you could wager with online only digital bookies such as BetUK, betway and Spreadex who just operate on the internet. You’ll find many a Ligue 1 bet on their betting sites, because they have only existed since the growth in football, so it’s now the number one sport for wagers this side of the Channel.
How to Bet on Ligue 1
With any of our France Ligue 1 predictions, there is then the matter of how to get a wager on them. The process is simple enough for punters to follow and these five steps tell you what to do:
- Log in to your betting account if you have one already, or sign up to one of our recommended bookies.
- Make a deposit if necessary, so you have money to bet with.
- Keep your eyes peeled for any promotions and offers relating to Ligue 1 bets.
- Find the football tips and markets you want to wager on, then look at the odds available.
- Add the Ligue 1 bet of choice to the betslip, then enter your stake. Here’s hoping you back a winner.
Ligue 1 Favourites & Betting Odds
Since a takeover by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, one team stands out in France. Backed by the wealth of those petrodollars from the Middle East, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are invariably Ligue 1 betting favourites each season. This term is no different.
Despite the departure of star striker Kylian Mbappe from the Parc des Princes, it is expected to be business as usual. All Ligue 1 predictions for the season stick with PSG as outright winners even though him leaving raises questions over who will score the goals.
How Do the Football Teams Play in Ligue 1?
The short answer is it’s all relative. Different clubs approach the beautiful game differently. Some French teams play possession-based football, while other Ligue 1 outfits must be more pragmatic. Any France league prediction worth its salt knows this.
More Ligue 1 Betting Tips
As with any football league, there are plenty of different ways to bet on the games each and every matchday. As a punter, you must decide on which Ligue 1 betting markets are right for your style of gambling. Some people prefer to keep things simple and just wager on the final results.
Such punters will enjoy our Ligue 1 accumulator tips that pick out the teams to back across the fixtures. Nowadays, these multiples don’t have to be on different games but the same match if you like. We have Ligue 1 bet builder predictions which cover that.
The rise in proper recording of football statistics is also a betting angle we suggest you exploit. To this end, there are Ligue 1 corner predictions available on how many corner kicks will there be in games. This is precisely the kind of data tailor-made for AI generated tips. Clubs who play with real width and try to stretch their opponents may get more corners than others.
It doesn’t stop there, though, as Ligue 1 card betting predictions covering how disciplined (or not) each or both sides will be on the pitch also feature. Expect tough tackling, physical teams to have the names of their players taken into the referee’s notebook.
Our Ligue 1 tips are at their best when the AI software is set a simple proposition. Any market that has a Yes or No binary answer is also of interest. The BetIdeas system can easily make Ligue 1 BTTS predictions on whether both teams will find the target in a game or not.
Last, but by no means least, is a similar concept. Just like Yes and No, it’s simple to provide Ligue 1 Under/Over predictions on how many goals will be scored in matches. Get two defensive teams up against one another and you can’t expect the net to bulge.
About Ligue 1
Originally founded in 1930 when French football turned professional and starting in 1932, the top flight became Ligue 1 70 years later in 2002. This rebranding coincided with an increase of the number of teams from 18 to 20. Ligue 1 then reduced the number of clubs in the division back down to 18 for the 2023-24 season. The club with the most points after all 34 matches (17 home games and 17 away fixtures) wins the title.
Each of the top four teams in Ligue 1 currently qualifies for the following season’s UEFA Champions League. Three further places in European competition are available to clubs in French football. The Coup de France winners receive an automatic berth in UEFA Europa League, as does the fifth placed team in Ligue 1. The next best finisher in the league goes into the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Rather than all of the bottom three teams suffering direct relegation at the end of the campaign, just the two with the fewest points go down automatically. Third from bottom then has a two-legged promotion / relegation play-off with whichever side from those finishing third, fourth and fifth in Ligue 2 makes it through eliminators.

Saint-Etienne have 10 top-flight championships each and so do Marseille if you add in a win from the amateur era. Monaco and Nantes are the next most successful teams in France with eight titles each. Lyon managed seven championships in a row between 2001 and 2008, a period where they dominated the domestic game with strong sides.
Bordeaux and Reims are six-time winners of the French top flight, while inaugural Ligue 1 winners Lille have five titles since it became a professional competition. Some 18 different clubs have been champions of France since the end of the amateur era.
Recent Ligue 1 Winners
As noted above, PSG have simply dominated the division since the Qatar government takeover at the Parc des Princes. The Parisians have suffered a couple of reverses where they didn’t win Ligue 1, though, as the table below shows:

FAQs
Why is Ligue 1 reduced to 18 teams?
The simple answer is that the clubs competing in the French top flight at the time that the decision was taken voted for it. It brings Ligue 1 in line with the neighbouring German Bundesliga, who also have a league season of 34 matches.
When is your next France Ligue 1 prediction available?
If you’re reading this over summer, then it’ll be in August. For those of you landing on this page during the season, our next Ligue 1 predictions are coming right up.
Is Ligue 1 the weakest league in Europe?
Well no, actually. While PSG have been a dominant force and the most obvious French league prediction season after season, they haven’t won the title in more than four consecutive years. During the same period since their rise as a footballing force, Juventus lifted Serie A in Italy nine times on the spin and Bayern Munich picked up 11 Bundesliga championships in a row in Germany.
Why are your Ligue 1 tips free?
We made the Ligue 1 betting tips on BetIdeas free to all, because data models and AI software have done all the hard work. All our experts behind them do is take relevant information like stats, form and team news, and feed this into computers that then produce picks.
