Football’s Top 10 Market Value Losers Shed Over €350 Million This Season

Many football stars lost tens of millions of euros in market value this season, mainly due to transfer flops, struggles with form, or just effects of their aging. However, several names stand out, and their combined market value drop is quite shocking. According to data presented by Betideas.com, the top ten market value losers of 2025/2026 have collectively lost €352 million since the start of the year.

Phil Foden Tops the List with a €60 Million Drop; Market Value Halved in a Year

Although it has become pretty common to measure football players` market value in tens and even hundreds of millions of euros, some of the losses seen this year are painful even by the football industry’s standards. The Betideas team has rounded up ten players who suffered the biggest drops, and even among them, one name stands out.

According to TransferMarkt data, Phil Foden is the biggest loser of this season, suffering a massive €60 million market value drop year-to-date.  Manchester City’s right winger has seen his valuation dip mainly due to inconsistent form and visible physical and mental fatigue compared to his standout 2023–24 performance.

As if that weren’t enough, tactical changes and shifting roles within the squad have made it even harder for Foden to keep the same level of performance. As a result, his market value practically halved in a single year.  Between May 2024 and January 2025, Foden’s market value has already slipped by €10 million from an all-time peak of €150 million. However, by mid-2025, he had lost another €40 million, bringing his total to €100 million. Since then, his valuation has dropped by another 20% to €80 million, marking a massive €60 decline, the biggest among all players this season.

Vinicius Junior is football’s second-largest loser this season, with a €50 million drop. In January, Real Madrid’s left winger was valued at €200 million; now he’s worth €150 million. Phil Foden’s teammate Rodri stands in third place with a €40 million drop this season, followed by Gavi, who suffered the same decline.

Arsenal’s midfielder Martin Ødegaard rounds out the top five, with a considerable €30 million market value drop. The following five players on the list are Eduardo Camavinga, who also saw a €30 million decline, Bernardo Silva with a €28 million loss, and James Maddison, Dušan Vlahović, and Victor Boniface, who each suffered €25 million drops. Altogether, these ten players have collectively lost an eye-watering €352 million since the beginning of the year. Interestingly, the first name outside the top ten is Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, whose valuation plunged by €20 million in the same period.

Three out of the Ten Biggest Market Value Losers Play in Manchester City

Analyzed by clubs, statistics show that three of the ten biggest market value losers this season play for the Premier League’s Manchester City.  Besides Phil Foden, who tops with a €60 million decline, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and Erling Haaland add another €88 million in losses, pushing the combined total for these four football superstars to a whopping €148 million.

Real Madrid has two names on this list, while FC Barcelona, Arsenal, Juventus, and Tottenham Hotspur all have one player on the list of biggest market value losers of the season.
