Real Madrid Leads European Football With €11.2M Average Player Salary in 2025/26, 60% Higher Than Most Top Clubs

Over the past two decades, since transfer spending took off, Europe’s top-tier clubs have splashed hundreds of billions of euros on new players. Usually, the biggest share of that money comes from the Premier League, undoubtedly the biggest spender in the world of football. However, no club comes close to Real Madrid when it comes to payroll or average annual player salary.

According to data presented by Betideas.com, Real Madrid leads European football with an average annual player salary of €11.2 million in the 2025/26 season, 60% more than most other top clubs.

Real Madrid Pays Roughly €4 Million more Per Player than FC Barcelona, PSG, or Manchester City

As a global football powerhouse, Real Madrid has always had an elite roster of high-value talent, with its first team consistently ranking among the most expensive squads in the world. Over the years, the club has had some of the most famous and followed players on its team, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Jr., turning nearly every match into a global spectacle. But that level of talent and spectacle comes with a price, a hefty one according to Capology data.

According to Capology data, Real Madrid is paying the highest average player salary this season, roughly 60% higher than most other top European clubs. Although the average annual net wage of Real Madrid’s first-team players actually dropped by nearly €1 million compared to last season, the club still pays an eye-watering €11.2 million per year, roughly €4 million more than FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, or Manchester City.

Barca players ranked second, with the average annual salary of €7.91 million, also a considerable drop from €8.5 million last season. Manchester City follows closely, paying €7.43 million on average to its A-team players in the 2025/26 season. Unlike Spanish giants, however, the Citizens have increased their net wage by a solid €1.1 million per player from last season.

Bayern Munich ranked fourth on the list, averaging €7.38 million per player, down from €8.5 million last season. Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain both pay closer to €7 million per player, while Liverpool FC and Manchester United spend around €6 million on average. Statistics show that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are on the other side of the list, with average annual player salaries of €4.5 million and €3.4 million, respectively.

Top Ten Clubs Shell Out €40.5 Million a Week on Player Salaries

While million-euro paychecks are nothing new in the football world, the amount of money Europe’s top clubs spend on their players each week is still shocking.

As the highest-paying football club globally, Real Madrid shells out €5.6 million a week in player salaries. Manchester City and Bayern Munich are the closest to this figure, with weekly wage bills of €4.86 million and €4.97 million, respectively. FC Barcelona, PSG, and Manchester United each spend around €4 million a week, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea around €3 million, while Tottenham is the only club spending “only” €2 million. Together, these ten clubs shell out an eye-watering €40.5 million every single week in wages, showing the enormous costs behind modern football.
