When Do We Publish Our AFCON Predictions?
We will aim to release our football predictions for AFCON as early as possible to ensure you have enough time to act on our advice at the bookmakers. With group stage fixtures, you can expect to see tips published for each game around 48-72 hours before kick-off on each matchday.
For knockout ties later in the competition, the timeframe will be similar, but short turnaround times between games could cause slight delays to tips being formulated. It’s important to note that the football betting tips we publish are dynamic.
What that means is that our tips can adjust based on emerging team news, injury updates, referee announcements and weather conditions. Basically, anything that could impact proceedings will be factored in.
Outright markets like AFCON winner or top goalscorer will be online by early December 2025, just as the final squads are announced. We recommend bookmarking this page and checking it regularly for the latest updates so that you don’t miss a beat.
Africa Cup of Nations Tips in General
At BetIdeas, we’re intent on delivering comprehensive Africa Cup of Nations predictions for a wide variety of markets.
We analyse everything from historical head-to-heads and current form to the impact of individual stars to inform our tips. Below, we’ve listed some of the markets you can expect to find tips for during AFCON:
1×2 Predictions for AFCON Matches
The bread-and-butter of football betting, 1×2 tips (home win, draw, away win) provide the foundation of our Africa Cup of Nations tips. With this most straightforward version of forecasting, you’re picking a win for either team or a draw (e.g. Morocco to beat Comoros).
BTTS Tips in Africa Cup of Nations Fixtures
Both Teams to Score is one of the most popular football wagers and BTTS markets should attract plenty of interest again this year. In the 2023 edition of AFCON, 46% of the total matches played featured goals from both teams, so bettors should expect similar returns in 2025.
We’ll publish BTTS tips for every round of this year’s tournament, from the group stage right through to January’s final in Rabat (e.g. BTTS in Nigeria vs Tunisia).
Over/Under Goals in AFCON Predictions
Where it’s over/under 2.5, 3.5 or even 4.5 goals, totals lines are easily one of the biggest favourites among football punters. Bettors love to stack goals predictions together into accumulators for big payouts.
At the last AFCON in 2023, just 38% of the games played saw three or more goals, though excitement levels should be higher in 2025. We’ll have over/under goals tips for every single game in the competition (e.g. over 2.5 goals in Egypt vs South Africa).
Correct Score
For those targeting bigger payouts, our correct score predictions for AFCON should suit your taste. Traditionally much tougher to land due to the accuracy involved, the correct scoreline market offers much wider odds to go along with the greater risk (e.g. Senegal 2-0 Botswana).

Our coverage spans the entire breadth of the tournament, from the initial group stage to the do-or-die knockout rounds. We offer AFCON betting tips across bet builders, player specials, goal markets and more, ensuring you’re covered for choice at every stage of the competition.

Outright Africa Cup of Nations Betting Tips
- Outright winner – This market allows you to pick the overall winner of AFCON 2025. Host nation Morocco (11/4) are the current favourites to prevail, with Egypt (11/2), Algeria (6/1), Senegal (6/1) and Nigeria (9/1) next in line at bigger prices. 2023 winners, Ivory Coast (12/1), are considered relative outsiders this time around.
- Group winner/to qualify – Here you can break things down by group by forecasting which teams might win or qualify from Groups A, B, C, D, E and F at AFCON. Usually, two stronger teams are paired in each section alongside two less-fancied sides. However, upsets at this stage of international tournaments are common and the favourites aren’t always guaranteed to escape the Group Stage gauntlet.
- Stage of elimination – In this market, you can plot a team’s destiny by forecasting the stage of their exit. That could be the Group Stage, Round of 16, Quarter Finals or Semi Finals. The market is also commonly labelled as “to reach”, though the same prices and formats apply.
- Top goalscorer – This market focuses in on the match winners and game changers likeliest to win the AFCON Golden Boot. Bookmakers usually pay out on a few places each way at reduced odds for top scorer lines, making it a fertile hunting ground for profit. In 2023, Equatorial Guinea’s Emilio Nsue was AFCON’s Golden Boot winner with five goals. We’ll have free AFCON predictions for all top scorer lines.
About AFCON 2025
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which is the 35th edition of the tournament, is being hosted in the Atlas Lions’ den in Morocco, and will run from 21 December to 18 January 2026
Some 24 of Africa’s best teams will descend on Morocco to compete in 52 matches at nine different stadiums in six host cities, with the final booked at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
If AFCON feels like it’s coming earlier than usual in 2025, it’s because it is. This year’s tournament will be played through the Christmas and New Year festivities for the first time, after the schedule was moved back to avoid clashing with World Cup qualifiers.
Which Countries Qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations Finals?
Qualification for the tournament proper wrapped up in November 2024. Here’s the breakdown of qualified teams, listed group by group:
Star Players at AFCON 2025 to Look Out for
Some of European club football’s biggest stars will flock south to Morocco for AFCON. Here are some of the star names hoping to lead their team to glory in 2025:
Achraf Hakimi & Yassine Bounou (Morocco)
Morocco will have one of the strongest rosters at AFCON, though flying Paris Saint-Germain wingback Achraf Hakimi is undoubtedly their star attraction. The 27-year-old, who is closing in on 90 international caps, is the current African Footballer of the Year and will skipper the hosts at the tournament.
Vastly experienced keeper Yassine Bonou meanwhile, who plays his club football with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, will play at his fourth Africa Cup of Nations this year.
Mohamed Salah & Omar Marmoush (Egypt)
Liverpool superstar Salah remains a talismanic presence for the Egyptians and, although he only scored twice during the AFCON qualifiers, the 33-year-old should carry plenty of threat at the tournament proper.
Lining up alongside Salah in attack will be Omar Marmoush. The Manchester City forward has been a peripheral figure at club level this term, though he should be fresher for Egypt as a result.
Ismaila Sarr, Iliman Ndiaye & Sadio Mané (Senegal)
Squad depth won’t be an issue for the Lions de la Téranga, who have some fearsome frontline options including Crystal Palace flier Ismaila Sarr, Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye and Al-Nassr attacker Sadio Mané.
Ndiaye has been one of the top performers in England’s Premier League this season, and he can travel to Morocco with bags of confidence. Expect the 25-year-old to feature in plenty of our AFCON predictions.
Bryan Mbeumo, Carlos Baleba (Cameroon)
In-demand Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba has another chance to showcase his burgeoning talent at AFCON.
Bryan Mbeumo, meanwhile, has arguably been Manchester United’s best player this season and his goal-scoring talents from the right flank could be just as key for his country.
Amad Diallo & Franck Kessié (Ivory Coast)
Amad plays as a wingback for his club (Man Utd), though the talented wideman should have a more advanced remit at AFCON. Former AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié, who is currently attached to Al-Ahli, captains his country and will patrol the middle of the pitch with authority.
Rayan Aït-Nouri & Riyad Mahrez (Algeria)
Two of Algeria’s best players are current and former Man City employees, Rayan Aït-Nouri and Riyad Mahrez. The latter has collected more than a century of caps and will wear the captain’s armband in Morocco. Mahrez turns 35 just after the tournament ends, though he still has enough quality left to dazzle.
Yves Bissouma & Kamory Doumbia (Mali)
Les Aigles will pack a punch in midfield at AFCON, with Tottenham’s Bissouma providing steel and up-and-coming Brest starlet Doumbia providing silk through central areas.
Victor Osimhen & Ademola Lookman (Nigeria)
In Galatasaray striker Osimhen, the Super Eagles wield one of football’s most complete centre forwards. Osimhen, who has been averaging just under a goal-per-game for Nigeria since 2017, will be ably supported by Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.
